Paris 2011 - Leon de Bruxelles

On our way to Pierre Herme we passed Leon de Bruxelles, which I had read about prior to getting to Paris. We decided we would give its mussels a try for lunch one of the days while we were in Paris.

Leon de Bruxelles is a semi-"fast food" chain that serves fresh and delicious mussels!

Each of us got a pot of the delicious mussels (different sauces and seasonings.) They were both very tasty. The mussels were cooked perfectly and the seasonings were wonderful. There were a lot of mussels in each pot, and toward the end of the meal John said he thought he had "mussel fatigues!" hahaha.

And of course there were frites and beers.

I believe it was on "Thanksgiving Day (American)," so we had mussels and frites for our "Thanksgiving in Paris!"

shrimp sheller

My sister got me a shrimp sheller (from Sur La Table.) She said she thought of me when she saw this little tool. I wonder why.

Anyhow, I tested it out, and it worked very well!

shrimp sheller

It didn't quite work as well on shrimp for me, however, even though it was a "shrimp" sheller... I guess the shrimp I had were too small for me to fully utilize the sheller. I used it on shelling crab legs and I could very easily pick the meat up with a fork afterwards.

So I have the shrimp sheller in my bag (almost) all the time now. (!) You never know when you need to shell a shrimp or a crab leg, or any shellfish.

striped kalles

I love the little food and snack martket inside IKEA. Every time we go out there I'd manage to pick up a couple fun Swedish foods.

A while ago I bought a tube of Kalles spread, and I liked it. It was a bit salty for my taste, but with crackers it was pretty awesome.

This time I saw a new Kalles spread. It's spriped! It has its original smoked roe, and cream cheese.

cracker and spread

The striped spread doesn't taste as salty as the original one, and is tasty on crackers. I'm loving the Ritz roasted vegetable crackers these days.

snacks!
Yumminess.

Thank goodness for IKEA!
