Anywho. John and I stopped for quick lunch and the food was delish. There were lots of choices, and I don't think you'll go wrong with any of them.

San Francisco 07.11 (13) - quick Taqueria lunch
I totally do not remember the name of this little taqueria, but it was at a corner on Valencia... maybe it's called "Taqueria on Valencia?"
Anywho. John and I stopped for quick lunch and the food was delish. There were lots of choices, and I don't think you'll go wrong with any of them.

florentinas!
I love trying different treats from different places. These days some of my favorite cookies are from Mexico! I found these Florentinas the other day and I'm loving them!
I got the strawberry Florentinas. There were also caramel ones on the shelf, but I'll wait until next time to get them. These are like little strawberry tarts or pies with slightly sticky filling. They are sweet, but not too sweet... they are tasty!

super cheesy enchiladas
John made us enchiladas for dinner.
How cheesy is this!
It was possibly the most delicious enchiladas I've had. They were soft, cheesy, moist, and very favorful. Yummy!

spanglish

I watched Spanglish (2004) a few days ago and I thought it was probably one of my favorite movies now. It's so cute.
And the scene where Flor Moreno brings back a lot of Mexican baked goods for her daugher are just like the cool bakery inside the South American market on 3500 South (approx. 1850 West... I've got to find out the name of the place so I can post it!)
With that being said, I got 4 pastries from the bakery yesterday and together they were about 2.00. Steal!

mexican bread
There's this wonderful Mexican market in a plaza on Redwood Road (whose name I could not quite pronounce or remember yet, but I shall find it out soon), and I visited it for the first time last week. There were great looking meats and produce, as well as rows after rows of hot sauces and spices. I was in love.
Right next to the market there was a deli/bakery, where there were trays of large bread and cookies. They were not like the Asian or European bread that I was more familiar with... they were HUGE, and they "looked" hard. I waited until several people pick up little trays full of these bread and decided I had to try some.
I think the one on the left looks like a cooked turkey!
These were some simple and yummy bread! I was very pleasantly surprised. From the picture: The turkey-looking bread was a simple sweet bread, and the cookie in the middle was a chocolate-and-spices cookie, and the GIANT biscotti looking bread on the right was a sweet bread with butter and sugar. Simple and delish!
These breads probably have better and proper names that I still need to figure out. I took John there a couple days ago and we chose a few more different bakery items. They were so fun!
Next I'm going to try the big flan that I saw AFTER we already paid for the breads.

i love carnitas!
John and I went to Red Iguana again yesterday... there were so many things on the menu I didn't really know what to get, so I decided to get their Carnitas again. It was so good!
It was only around 4pm when we were there, but it was already getting a bit dark in the restaurant.
John got their Mole Negro with chicken. The sauce was really really dark!
Hmm... yummy chips and salsa, and horchata!
It was getting dark at the restaurant until the manager pulled up the blinds... we could finally see things.
I know there are other yummy things on the menu, but I just couldn't say no to their carnitas... maybe I'll try something different next time... just maybe.
