[Portland 07.09] Powell's Books

One of the "must stop" spots for us in Portland was Powell's Books.

powell's books
We were there!

It didn't look giantically giant up front, but it was REALLY huge! The bookstore pretty much covered the whole block (and with multiple levels). Awesome.

japanese comic books
It even had lots of used Japanese comic books!

John and I spent quite a while browsing through some of our favorite sorts of books, and picked up some awesome used books. I was in love.

Nice racks out front.

Powell's was indeed an awesome city of books.

opinions

A little while ago I realized it was important for me (and most people) to know when not to talk. I later read in Don't Sweat the Small Stuff for Women and learened that when people come to you and want to talk or complain, it's best to ask first, "Would you like my opinion, or would you like me to just listen?"

How truthful and useful is this? I think I'll be saying this a lot to people around me, and only give my opnion when they want and ask for it. I think I'll be able to better stay out of trouble this way.

the martha rules

I found The Martha Rules at the dollar store one day. It's an amazing book! Martha Stewart tells her stories and experiences of being an entrepreneur and the ups and downs one may encounter when starting or managing a business.

I love how Martha "writes" like she talks! :D John didn't enjoy it as much as I do, but we both agree Martha was Martha for a reason.

I've just started reading this book again and I'm still really enjoying it!

i found some books

I enjoy reading, and I always have a lot of books around me and in the house.

I was just looking in the kitchen at the caffe and found a few books on the bottom shelf, burried under some supplies. I don't quite remember when I got these books, but I think it was when the library had a book sale last year. I also notice these are the sort of books that I don't usually read, and most of them are best sellers. Interesting. I wonder if I bought them because they were .50 each at the library at the time... but I'm going to read them and see how it goes.

I think I'm going to start with "Who Moved My Cheese?" I hope I'll like it.
