tune in!

I was suprised to know that many more people are listening to our KRCL radio show now. This past Wednesday during our show many listeners called in and commented how much they loved the new Mandarin Chinese Lesson segment of the show. I'm so glad my idea worked... When KRCL was thinking about cancelling the show prior to us new DJs'arrival because of low listenership, I figured we had to "market" our show to non-Chinese speaking listeners... and adding a segment to teach this language over a billion people speak in the world was the way to go. It worked!

Of course I had to teach the mini class in English, and I did. Most listeners that called in that night were actually English speakers, so I guess my little "strategy" worked! I'll continue to make the lessons interesting, and Qiao Liang, Yachi, and myself will make sure the show stays good and stays on.

When: Wednesday nights from 7pm - 8:30pm Mountain Time
Where: KRCL 90.0 FM Salt Lake City, or online at KRCL.org

Tune in!

the art festival

It's the 31st annual Utah Arts Festival this weekend... and since the fetival is held at the Library Square right across street from our caffe, we're seeing a LOT of people these days, and of course the parking is just crazy... I was frustrated earlier when I couldn't find a parking spot on our parking lot. I almost yelled at people, but I didn't.

The only day John and I can go to the festival together is Sunday, but since the temperature is probably going to hit 100 degrees F, we may just chill at home with the dogs. JP has a booth at the festival, and I'd really want to go see him and his artwork... we'll see.

chocolate covered strawberry

My friend Joanne came to the caffe to see me and brought me this HUGE chocolate-covered strawbeery. It was from The Bakery, and was big, and yummy. I've never bought any chocolate from The Bakery, but I got some from Cummings, an old chocolatier in Salt Lake City, and I love 'em.

I think most chocolate-covered things are yummy. I've heard people talk about chocolate-covered ant and crickets... I wonder how they are, but I don't think I'd ever try any.

KRCL meeting

The KRCL meeting went quite well today. I addressed Ryan the director's concerns and expressed how committed I was. The Asian community was really nervous about KRCL cancelling the show, but Ryan did want the younger and more energetic hosts (me, Leon, and Yachi) to "revive" the show.

So the show is still on! I'd better work harder for it now.

knut

I thought I was going to melt after seeing this:

Too cute, too cute.

I think it's amazing how much Knut loves and trusts his caretaker. It's beautiful.

crawling

Every time I see the dogs lie down like this on the floor, I'd imagine they are crawling across the floor.

IKEA swedish meatballs

The Swedish Meatballs at IKEA is yummy, and it's a way better deal if you get a large (20 pcs) to share than to get two small ones (10 pcs each). We each got a small order of Swedish Meatballs last time, and it was $4.49 each; and yesterday we learned to get a large one for $4.99 to share, and a side vegetable soup. The soup was not impressive. Not at all.

However, the apple cake was sooooo apple-icious! I had to say it beat the meatballs for me.

With that being said, we went to IKEA again because I finally decided to get the VIKA ARTUR combination of table and legs. Apparently everyone wanted it, because it was all out of stock as of yesterday.

We did buy John some bins to store his green coffee beans.

and they got married!

I went to the court to be a witness for a cute couple's wedding ceremony yesterday. It was simple, but very cute, and my friends totally showed their affection and love for each other. They still haven't told most of their friends and their families they were married, so I'm not going to mention their names right now, but I'm so honored to have witnessed the ceremony, and I'm so happy for them!

Ahh, aside from the simple and beautiful ceremony, another really intereting thing was that the person who took their marriage license fees, helped them fill out forms, married them, and given them the actual marriage license, was the same person-- the judge! I was giggling for a while, but thank goodness I don't think she noticed at all.

swedish funness

We finally went down to the new IKEA yesterday, and while we were tempted to get one of everything, we managed to only take a few specs of tables and shelves. I think I'll be getting a VIKA series table for my little work area "studio" in the back of the caffe... similar to the one below, but with a wood tabletop instead of glass.

How did we get to go to IKEA without getting anything? Of course we got a little somethin' somethin'. I spotted these Bilar "chewy candy cars" and got a bag. I thought they'd have gummy bears' texture, but they actually had a bubble-gum chewiness and flavors (but you do swallow them after you chew them.) Interesting.

John got a small box of Swedish cakes, which were actually like chocolate covered nut rolls. Yummy.

pride festival

It's the Pride Festival (sponsored by the Utah Pride Center) in Salt Lake City this weekend. Many people fly into town for the events, and I think it's amazing... I know how many people are surprised to learn that there's the Pride Festival in the overall shy state of Utah. There are also many protesters alongside the events, but overall it's been a peaceful festival.
