cake boss

I've been watching Cake Boss on Netflix these days, and it's seriously addicting!

(photo from TLC)

The series is a reality show on an awesome and celebrated cake artist Buddy Valastro and his family/crew in their 100-year-old bakery (Carlo's Bake Shop) in New Jersey. I love it!

The only problem with having a Cake-Boss-a-thon is that I want cakes more often and I believe I HAVE to learn to decorate cakes now.

writing

Yesterday I was making lunch and saw a show on UEN about teaching, inspiring, and helping youngsters to write. The show was called "Words That Cook," where the hosts gave "recipes" for writing/reading success... it reminded me of a class called "Reading Instructions" back in grad school.

Here are a few tips I remembered from the show that can help young people write (in my own words):

-Encourage and help kids make special and unique notebooks and book covers.
-Inspire kids to write stories about things they see in daily life.
-Allow kids to use words they make up.
-It's OK when kids make mistakes when spelling... as long as the words make sense phonetically.
-Do give the CORRECT ways of spelling when kids ask.
-Write stories together with the kids.
-Encourage kids to read different styles of writing and from various writers.

OK the show gave more tips but these are the ones I can remember right now. I think these tips are not only helpful for young people but also for adults. Let's all write up! :)

man purse

Ryan was helping me finalize our first recorded show, and he turned around to grab something from his bag. He referred to the bag as his "man purse."

OMG. It was the first time I heard another person use that term other than myself.

I wonder if he got that term from the same source I did. (The original term, though, was "man bag," but I've just always been calling it "man purse.")

oh james

So Stefani is Donald Trump's new apprentice. It's great, and Stefani is pretty, but James had always been so creative and capable. Geez. I wish he could win Trump's heart. It's probably true that Stefani can remain cooler and calmer under pressure, but hey, I think it's great to be hyper and creative, too. I was surprised that James didn't win, but oh well, it's just life.

Stefani has been a calm and confident woman, and that I admire. And did I mention she's pretty?

Well, at least James has his own company and this whole "apprentice interview process" should bring him more fame and opportunities. Way to go, James.
