striped kalles

I love the little food and snack martket inside IKEA. Every time we go out there I'd manage to pick up a couple fun Swedish foods.

A while ago I bought a tube of Kalles spread, and I liked it. It was a bit salty for my taste, but with crackers it was pretty awesome.

This time I saw a new Kalles spread. It's spriped! It has its original smoked roe, and cream cheese.

The striped spread doesn't taste as salty as the original one, and is tasty on crackers. I'm loving the Ritz roasted vegetable crackers these days.

snacks!
Yumminess.

Thank goodness for IKEA!

kalle's creamed smoked roe

I'd seen these tubes of "Kalle's Creamed Smoked Roe" many times at the IKEA market but never wanted to try any. For some odd reason it sounded exciting and good last time I was there, so I bought a tube. Since I had never tasted "creamed smoked roe" I had to get the original kind.

Yes I set it on Naicha and took a picture of it.

It has been in the fridge for a while.

I just wasn't quite ready to open and try it until yesterday. I didn't know what to expect. "Creamed Smoked Roe"? Was it supposed to be chopped up caviar? The once seemingly cool word "creamed" started to sound a bit weird.

I opened it and squeezed some onto a cracker.

To my surprise, it was delicious! It almost tasted a bit "fishy" first, but it really was not... just totally different than all of the cheesy cracker spreads that I'm used to.

You can draw with the creamed smoked roe, too.

It's a bit salty to my taste, but I think it tastes great on butter crackers. I'm considering putting it on chicken nuggets or pizza... wonder how it'd go with them.

IKEA dubbla chokladflarn

I bought these Dubbla Chokladflarn cookies last time I went to IKEA. I don't know Swedish, but I figured "Dubbla Chokladflarn" should be, or close to "Double Chocolate," and double chocolate is always good.

The pink box is an added bonus.

nuki and a cookie
They are two thin and crispy oatmeal cookies dipped in dark chocolate and stuck together (almost like a sandwich cookie, but not quite). The cookie's texture and taste remind me of chocolate-covered corn flakes. Nuki is really interested in the noise caused by the their crispiness.

IKEA either wants you to share all the cookies with others, finish them very quickly, or find your own container for the cookies, because the box is wide open after you ripped open the outside plastic wrapper.

I'm glad I found this vintage Rubbermaid because it's perfect for cookies!

princess cake

My friend Joanne brought me a slice of Princess Cake from IKEA. I had never had it before, because every time I go to IKEA I only remembers to eat the Apple Cake.

The Princess Cake, or "prinsesstårta" to be exact, has layers of cake and raspberry jam, and topped with a layer of whipped cream. It's then covered by a light green Marzipan. It's beautiful, light, and delicious.

Apparently some people make these princess cakes PINK... That's awesome. After all, it probably is even more "princess" that way.

my b-day cake

People asked me if I baked anything for my birthday this year. No, I didn't, and I almost didn't get to have my birthday cake.

It seems like that birthdays are not that big of a deal any more after high school. However, each year John and I will still try to go to a nice restaurant, or pay visits to somewhere fun... but birthday cakes? I really haven't had a real birthday cake for a while.

Anyhow, for my birthday this year we went to IKEA and picked up a couple great shelves for my craft room, and while we were there we had to have their apple cake; and this time we also had their chocolate cake... so yes, these are my birthday cakes this year.

apple cake

Yummy apple cake. ALWAYS yummy.

Chocolate Mousse Cake.

The chocolate mousse cake was suprisingly yummy! The mousse was smooth and delicious, but not too sweet or heavy, and the chocolate cake layer was moise and light. Yummy yummy.
